Casco Viejo – the old town of Panama City (Part 2)

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

Crafts market

On Paseo las Bovedas there are small market stalls offering souvenirs and handmade products from Panama.

From jewelry made of silver, with pearls or semi-precious stones to paintings, woven baskets, masks, textiles and clothing to the famous Panama hats, here you are sure to find a gift idea for those staying at home.

I couldn't keep my hands off the beautiful hammered copper earrings, I wanted to take them all with me. After successfully haggling for a better price, I was also able to own a beautiful necklace made of freshwater pearls.

If you turn your back on the market stalls, you have a breathtaking view of the Panama City skyline.

Nightlife in Casco Viejo

In the evenings, many restaurants in the old town offer live music and a cozy atmosphere for a candlelight dinner.

With an exotic cocktail in your hand, you can admire the sparklingly colorful city skyline from a roof terrace in Casco Viejo and end the day comfortably.

Some clubs and bars are open until late at night. With the sounds of jazz, salsa, rock or pop, the nightlife can last until the early hours of the morning.

My conclusion about visiting Casco Viejo

A visit to the old town should not be missing from any trip to Panama. Casco Viejo offers something for everyone: be it the rich history, the diverse architecture, the trendy boutiques and art galleries, the lively nightlife, the world-class restaurants and bars or the relaxed atmosphere of the seafront promenade.

Guided tours

The advantage of exploring Casco Viejo with a local guide is that you can delve deep into the history and culture of the area and discover hidden gems and stories that you might miss on your own.
